is new to the area and does not know where to go. One yacht has a professionally trained chef,
and one has the captain's girlfriend learning to cook. One has shade on the top deck and one
leaves you in the sun all afternoon.
Nobody explains any of this to you when you are booking online, which is most of
the reason first charters go wrong.
Photos only tell part of the story
That is why our team tours hundreds of yachts in person every year. We do not just rely on
marketing photos, we step aboard, meet the crews and evaluate the details that can make or
break your charter. Does the yacht really look like the photos? Is it well maintained? Is
the crew properly trained?
If we have not personally toured a yacht, we do not guess. We use the trusted global broker
network we have built over many years to get firsthand feedback from professionals who have
inspected the yacht or recently placed clients aboard. That means you get real insider
insight, not just public reviews.
Who is managing the yacht?
Behind every yacht is a management company responsible for coordinating the owner, crew,
calendar, contracts and day to day operations. Their reputation tells you a lot about the
experience you can expect.
Some management companies have built an excellent reputation over many years for
professionalism and reliability. Others are newer or less established, which makes it
harder to know what to expect. Because we work with these companies every day, we know
which ones consistently deliver, communicate well and stand behind their charters, and
which ones do not.
The crew
A boat is only as good as the people running it. We ask how long the crew has been
aboard, whether they have worked together before, and whether the captain actually knows
the area you want to sail. A captain who has run these waters for years and a captain who
arrived this season will give you two very different weeks on the same yacht.
Industry-standard charter contracts
Most luxury charters are booked on industry-standard contracts such as MYBA, CYBA or AYCA.
These agreements help protect your funds by holding them in escrow until shortly before
your charter begins.
These contracts cannot be issued by yacht owners or crew. They are only available to
qualified professional charter brokers who meet strict industry standards, and it took us
years to earn access through our reputation, insurance, financial controls and industry
references.
A good sign of a broker's level of access is the contract itself. Industry contracts are
individually serialized and typically carry the issuing broker's name as the watermark. If
the watermark is not your broker's, it usually means they are getting the contract through
another broker rather than holding direct access themselves.
